However if we can offer you a few simple tips to avoid maintenance as long as possible, we know we are truly providing the best appliance repair service possible, and we will be there when you need us.

These are just a handful of tips for your washing machine, dishwasher and refrigerator that can increase the life of the device so that you can avoid costly repair.

Washing machine tips

Without being masters of the obvious, the first thing and foremost is do not overload your washing machine. Does it look like too many clothes are in there? If you think this might be the case, there is a good chance the answer is yes.

This next one, not as many know. Loose change and items in your pocket that end up in the washer could cost you hundreds of dollars in repair. Thin coins make their way into the inner workings of your washer and can cause mechanical as well as electrical failure.

Wash your sharp kitchenware by hand instead of the dishwasher

The racks in most dishwashers are a vinyl coated steel. Sharp objects such as kitchen knives and other sharp utilities can nick the vinyl coating exposing the steel, which naturally begins to rust over time. The rust will spread and coat your dishes every time you run the dishwasher until the unit is replaced.

Keep your refrigerator full and make sure the seals close properly

Every time the device turns on, and for longer periods of time causes wear and tear on the unit. Believe it or not, the more items you have in your refrigerator the less hard it has to work. Items in your fridge increase thermal mass, which absorbs warm air when you open the door, and retains the cooler temperatures for longer decreasing the frequency that the refrigerator has to turn itself on.

So what is the greatest cause for the refrigerator turning itself on more frequency to stay cool? It is actually those all important seals around the door. Even small amounts of food residue can interfere with a proper seal, but they are very easy to clean. Use a small amount of baking soda, water and a tooth brush and give them a quick scrub a couple times of year. When you are done, slide a piece of paper in the seal and close the door. If it is difficult to pull, the seal is doing its job. Try all the way around the refrigerator and freezer doors to be certain. If it pulls out easily, call a trained technician to replace it. It can take only a matter of months of overrunning to cause other significant and expensive problems.
